Final Artist Webpage

This is my final design for my artist webpage. I used Illustrator for the header and column, Photoshop animation for the first body containing the quotes, and Dreamweaver to put everything together.

Artist Webpage

-Dutch painter, architect, writer.
-Founder and leader of De Stijl movement- pure abstraction of objects and an essential reduction to line, form and color, used only primary colors, and simplified composition to vertical and horizontal compositions

-Early work inspired by Impressionists and reminiscent of Van Gogh
-Deeply inspired by Kandinskys theory of deep, synesthetic analysis of art
-Insisted on using diagonals for their dynamic features
-Designed many houses for artists, as well as cafés
-Attempted to evoke a new reality by stripping words of their former meanings

Quotes

We speak of concrete and not abstract painting because nothing is more concrete, more real than a line, a colour, a surface.
One must always paint in opposition to nature, and to one’s own 'mood'. To let oneself go is a weakness, a sort of hysterics.
The complete and definitive work of art is created beyond one’s individuality…
The work of art should be entirely conceived and formed by the mind before its execution.

Response to Cssbasics.com Chapters 1-4

Although an intimidating topic, cssbasics.com helps explain utilization of CSS in simple terms. A CSS, or cascading style sheet, can be used internally or externally. Internal method styles one specific page, while external controls all pages and is easier to maintain and reduces file sizes. CSS syntax contains three parts, inheritance refers to the nesting of elements inside others, and how they ultimately aquire these elements properties. Combining selectors allows the user to combine headers, each displaying the exact same properties specified. Comment tags are used to explain certain decisions made within the coding process to help others who may view your file. CSS classes allow you to change one specific element within another, for example changing one words size and color while the rest of the sentence remains untouched. CSS IDs are similar to classes, but once an ID is used it cannot be reused. IDs are usually used to edit the layout elements of a page, while classes are used to alter the text. ID selectors begin with a "#" number sign, while classes begin with a "." period.

Final Magazine Cover

For my final cover design, I made many decisions. I chose to create a subtle texture in the background using the clouds rendering in photoshop. I used mostly the Wacom tablet to create the loose, gestural marks. I wanted to incorporate my own touch into the cover, which mirrors the concept of individuality within the magazine. I used photoshop to crop images out of scanned photos and place them within the rope I drew. I also incorporated objects I captured with my own camera. All in all, I'm pleased with my final design.

Another Try..

Another attempt at a rope design. I used Illustrator and Photoshop with the Wacom tablet.

Mind Map and Mood Board for Magazine Cover

Mind Map:

Mood Board:

Questions:

1) Who is the target audience? Young women, late teens and early to late twenties
2) What is the name of your magazine? Why? Connotations? Maverick, which by definition means
a lone dissenter, as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician, who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates. I chose this because the clothing magazine I am creating embodies the ideals of a liberated, free-spirited individual.
3) What will your masthead look like? Do you have any ideas for fonts? Very simple, but with dynamic character. I'm leaning towards Rhino. Possibly some subtle hints of neutral color.
4) What images will be on the cover and why? A print of some sort, some are exhibited in my mood board, and a collage of images embodying the central focus of the clothing the magazine possesses.
5) What will be your sell lines to entice your target audience? "Free your spirit" "Embrace your inner liberation" "The individualist insider"

Magazine Ad

As an introduction to photoshop, our professor directed us to capture a picture of ourselves, and place our photo into an ad from a magazine. We were required to adjust the contrast through using levels to match accordingly.

Types of Images

As an introduction to InDesign, our professor asking us to recreate a template identical to this shown, except incorporate our own adjusted images. This exercise taught us the differences between bitmap, duotone, RGB, CMYK, and grayscale.

Final Seed Packets Matted

In completing this assignment, I endured many obstacles and difficulties. It was hard for me to balance simplicity and detail without completely over or under crowding the space. I think I stayed true to my initial idea of keeping the design clean and simple, and the background texture added a necessary element to the pieces.

Seed Packet Front #1

This is my first front view of my seed packet suite. I chose to alter the way birch trees bark peeled off by allowing them to reveal vivid, vibrant colors.

Lynda.com Video Reviews

Through watching the assigned videos, I gained knowledge about both Macs and PCs. In the "Laptop v.s Desktop" video, the speaker discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each choice. While laptops are built for their portability and convenience, they are ultimately more money for the same amount of power. Desktops, although not portable, are more easily upgradable. A tablet, like the iPad, is extremely portable, but not practicle if you need to utilize it for professional work, such as word processing, photo management, or video editing.

I also understood the 5 things each operating system obtains. File menus, which contain the essentials: new, open, close, save, and print. The only difference between a Mac and a PC is Mac's have "Quit Preview" instead of Exit. The second is cut, copy and paste, which all achieve the same results in both systems. Undo and redo are also identical operations for Macs and PCs. Each system also has preference settings for each page or program, and a help menu usually including the instruction manual and possible updates.
